George Zippel
President and Chief Executive Officer, Scottish Re Group Limited

George joined Scottish Re Group Limited as President and Chief Executive Officer in August 2007. Prior to joining the Company, George was President and CEO of Genworth Financial's Protection segment, which included the company's life insurance, long-term care insurance, employee benefit, and payment protection insurance businesses. Prior to joining Genworth as part of its initial public offering in May 2004, George held various senior management, operations and financial roles with the General Electric Company. He joined GE Financial in 1999 as President and CEO of First Colony Life Insurance Company.

George holds a B.A. in Economics from Hamilton College. He was most recently a board member of the American Council of Life Insurers and served on the Boards of Directors of Centra Health, Amazement Square – The Rightmire Children’s Museum, STEP with Links, and the NAILBA Charitable Foundation.

Chris Shanahan, FSA, MAAA
Interim Chief Executive Officer, North America, Scottish Re (U.S.), Inc.

Chris assumed the role of interim Chief Executive Officer in December 2007.  Previously, Chris was Executive Vice President of Business Development with responsibility for coordinating Scottish Re offering of products and services to the North American marketplace.  He joined the company in January 2005. 

Chris has an extensive background in life reinsurance, serving as Vice President-Product Solutions & Research at ING Re prior to joining Scottish Re. In that role, he oversaw outsourced product development, COLI/BOLI pricing, and critical illness pricing as well as managing actuarial, underwriting, and medical research. Prior to joining ING Re, Chris was 2nd Vice President & Managing Director for Lincoln Re where he managed life reinsurance pricing, COLI pricing & underwriting, and treaty development. Before joining Lincoln Re, Chris served in several actuarial capacities within Lincoln National Corporation encompassing valuation, asset-liability management, and pricing.

Chris holds a B.S. in Actuarial Science from Drake University. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).

Terry Eleftheriou
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Scottish Re Group Limited

Terry leads the company’s global finance function and is responsible for financial operations, including accounting and reporting, financial planning and analysis, taxation, audit, and investor and rating agency relations.

Terry was most recently a group finance executive with XL Capital where he was responsible for leading a number of strategic global initiatives to transform and integrate finance operations and enhance business processes and related controls. Prior to joining XL Capital in November 2003, Terry was the CFO of Sage Insurance Group International and previously was the finance leader for the retirement services segment of American General Financial Group.  He also occupied a variety of leadership roles spanning a fifteen year career with Ernst & Young where he specialized in providing assurance and advisory services to insurance and financial services companies in North America, Europe, and Asia.

Terry holds a B.S. in Economics from City University of London and is a Chartered Accountant.

Michael Baumstein
Executive Vice President, Investments and Capital Markets, Scottish Re Group Limited

Michael is the Executive Vice President, Investments and Capital Markets of Scottish Re Group Limited. Michael is also President of Scottish Re Broker/Dealer, Scottish Re Capital Markets.

Michael is currently responsible for the Scottish Re Group Limited investment function as well as developing and executing the Company capital markets strategies. Prior to his current role, Michael led the Company corporate finance initiatives, and was the firm liaison with rating agencies and investors.

Before joining Scottish Re, Michael was an investment banker, with a specialty in financial institutions corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions at Bear Stearns and Prudential Securities. He also held finance and strategy positions at PriceWaterhouse Coopers and Scudder Kemper Investments.

Michael holds a B.A. in Economics from Rutgers University and an M.B.A. from Columbia University.

Paul Goldean
Chief Administrative Officer, Scottish Re Group Limited

Paul is responsible for corporate development and legal/regulatory matters.

Paul has been Chief Administrative Officer since August 2007.  He joined the Company in February 2002 as Senior Vice President and General Counsel and served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel from February 2004 to August 2006.  From August 2006 to December 2007, he served as interim President and Chief Executive Officer.

Prior to joining the Company, Paul worked at Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue from March 2000 to February 2002 where his responsibilities included acting outside counsel to Scottish Re. From 1997 to 2000, Paul worked with the law firm of Strasburger & Price, L.L.P.

Paul holds a J.D. from Southern Methodist University and received a B.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Texas at El Paso.

Dan Roth
Chief Restructuring Officer, Scottish Re Group Limited

Dan leads the Scottish Re transition program focused on operational effectiveness.  He is a member of the Scottish Re Executive Committee, allowing him to help drive operational efficiencies between the Company’s business segments.

Prior to joining Scottish Re, Dan spent the last year with Cerberus Capital Management L.P. on its operations team focused on financial and operational due diligence in the insurance, media, and information technology industries. His previous experience includes ten years with the General Electric Company, most recently as the Manager of Finance for GE Money personal loan business in Japan.  Dan also led GE Money global capital allocation program in Stamford, CT, implementing risk based capital allocation methodologies across its portfolio of consumer receivables.  Prior to that, Dan was a Senior Manager for GE Corporate Audit Staff, leading teams responsible for financial and operational reviews of GE businesses in North America and Asia.   

Dan holds a B.S. in Management Information Systems from the University of Dayton school of business and is a graduate of GE Information Management Leadership Program.

Samir Shah, FSA, FRM, PRM
Executive Vice President, Chief Risk Officer, Scottish Re Group Limited

Samir is charged with developing and implementing a risk management strategy and operating framework designed to significantly improve risk management disciplines across the company.

Samir has over twenty years of experience in risk and capital management and has done extensive work developing and implementing Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) concepts, methods and tools. Most recently, Samir was a Principal with Towers Perrin where he was a leader in the firm's global Enterprise Risk Management practice which helped insurance companies, banks and non-financial institutions manage enterprise-wide risks. Prior to his ten-year tenure at Tower Perrin, Samir held various management consulting roles focused in areas such as non-traditional actuarial risk management, operational efficiency and financial performance improvement.

Samir holds a B.S. and an M.S. in Industrial Engineering, specializing in Operations Research and Management Science, from Northwestern University. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), a Financial Risk Manager (FRM) certified by the Global Association of Risk Professionals and a Professional Risk Manager (PRM) certified by the Professional Risk Managers International Association.
